The Canadoes International Band of Ghana was one of the many dance bands from Ghana that operated in Nigeria in the 70s and the 80s. The Agege era was when J.J.Rawlings' military coup and regime's imposed curfew disrupted the lively evening night life in Ghana, especially in the major cities of Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Koforidua, Takoradi, Sunyani and Tamale where majority of the top Ghanaian dance bands were based and offered stress relieving and socialization nights for the communities. Many of the Ghanaian bands at the time relocated to Nigeria, and Canadoes was one of them. Aseibu Amenfi who was one of the lead vocalists of the group mentioned recently during an interview that most of the bandsmen were former members of Alex Konadu's band . No wonder, their recordings showed influences from the maestro Alex Konadu.
According to Global Groove, in describing one of Canadoes music, they wrote the following:
"This could be one of those bands from Ghana who
operated from Nigeria. On Rogers All Stars we find
this 1980 LP by ‘Canadoes Super Stars Band of Ghana’.
The bass player on this album immediately caught my
attention, amazing rhythms and voices to complete the beat.
Highlife Haven once gave us a song, today we’ve got us
a RAS recording from the year 1980, love it or leave it.
